A Little Bit About Shelah...
Athleticism runs
in the family. Shelah and her twin sister Bonnie run marathons, her dad is a
surfer par excellence, her uncle is a tennis pro, and her little sister Elena
Hight was the youngest member of the U.S.
Olympic Snowboard team (Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010).
Lately, Shelah does most of her running chasing after her two young sons—but she still makes
time to swim, surf and bike. And when it’s time to relax, you can often spot
her lounging at “Mermaid Rock” in Haena, or fishing off the Hanalei Pier with
family and friends.
Shelah Abubo traveled widely after college, returning when
she realized that Kauai was “no ka oi”—the best.
She spent a decade in residential real estate (where she
gravitated naturally toward the vacation rental side of the business) and met
her future husband at her favorite surf spot. When she realized she was
pregnant, Shelah decided to start her own business—“so I could keep my baby by
my side.”
‘Ohana—the
Hawaiian word for family—is important to Shelah. She still lives a few miles
from the “taro patch” where she grew up, and she’s raising her two boys in the
same barefoot in paradise lifestyle she enjoyed as a child.
