There are many reasons runners from all over the world will congregate on Kauai Sept. 2 for our annual marathon. Yes, it’s challenging (“hot, humid and hilly”)—but it’s also one of the most beautiful courses anywhere, with magnificent views of the ocean, mountains and tropical rain forests.
The Kauai Marathon starts in Poipu at 6am and wends its way through the Tunnel of Trees and on to Omao, Lawai, and the top of Kalaheo before starting a gradual descent back to the starting point.
Participants say it has a “small marathon feel” – but with the aloha spirit. “I have never seen such a huge number of volunteers and individuals outside their own houses before – and never felt such warmth and encouragement,” says one past participant.
