It’s really surprising how much live entertainment we have on Kauai, despite being smack in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In just the last two months we’ve had concerts by Los Lobos, Leo Kottke, Maria Muldaur and Dan Hicks backed by the SF Jazz All Stars. And on Feb. 2, Grammy winning Asleep at the Wheel will perform at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center.
If you’re on Kauai this coming weekend, January 21, don’t miss LOVELAND, a one-woman show by the critically acclaimed writer/performer Ann Randolph at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville.
Named “Best Solo Performer of San Francisco 2010,” Randolph’s last solo show was produced by Mel Brooks and the late Anne Bancroft. In LOVELAND, she embodies multiple characters, including Frannie Potts, an out-of-control, sexually charged misfit overwhelmed by grief. Facing the greatest loss of her life, she stumbles from outrageous confrontation to awkward confusion, finally glimpsing the mystery, tragedy, and beauty that unites us all. Tickets are $20 in advance, call 800 838-3006 or online www.brownpapertickets.com/event/143509
In conjunction with LOVELAND, Randolph will lead a two day “Write Your Life” Workshop Jan. 22-23 at the Church of the Pacific, guiding people to write their own personal stories of life and loss. Admission is $150 at the door or email arandolph@mac.com.
